Passport re issue before getting British passport

Hi, My passport is going to expire in april2014 and I am applying for my ILR on 8th aug 2013 in person. now my question is can i apply for British passport before the expiry of my passport as its just matter of 3 months. I dont want to get into the hassle of re issuing my passport just for 3 months. Please could anyone advise what options I have got. Thanks in advance

Seniors please comment if otherwise but to my knowledge the requirement is a passport with atleast 6 months validity. It takes less than 2 weeks to get a renewed passport and so if it is okay then you can delay your application by 2 weeks and then go with the new passport for your ILR.

You cannot apply for a British passport unless you have British citizenship. In order to apply for naturalisation, you must first hold ILR and meet other requirements (unless you are married to UKC, you will have to hold ILR for at least a year), etc...

Your citizenship is still a bit long way - but the answer to your original question is - no, you don't need a valid passport for citizenship application. If you don't have any travel plan and you don't wish to renew your passport until the citizenship application in 2014, that'd be fine. However to meet residential requirement - in absence of a valid passport - you need to provide payslips etc to confirm your presence in the UK.
