PAN card question, PIO card address change bits

Post by quantumscience » Sun Jul 21, 2013 11:47 am

Hi

I already hold a PIO card and am about to apply for my Indian PAN card (since it seems to be compulsory if you want to open even NRE Fixed deposits in India).

My questions...

1. The form 49AA (i think) for PAN card asks for some information like KYC details (assets less liabilities). Is this compulsory for individual PAN card applicant like me? I have no intention of investing in Mutual funds or shares, but will b e investing in NRE FDs though.

2. If my annual income details change every year (since it will ;)), should I be filing for updates on the PAN card every single year (since the annual income section in the application asks for it when we apply).

3. I am applying for a misc. services in my PIO card (since i have changed my residence address and my PIO card has old address in it). I want to do this update in my PIO card since i will want to use my PIO card for my address proof for PAN application.

Does anyone who has done this know how long does this PIO card update process take? I am planning to send it by special delivery POST. I will be sending out the original PIO card and my British passport and address proof photo cpoies.
Is this all you sent out + of course the form for Misc. services and £9 postal order from post office.

Also if you had applied for PAN from UK, can you tell me how long that process took for you.
Did you use one of those brokers (UK based pan card services providers) or on your own?

Any information on the above questions appreciated.

Thanks

Hi
I applied and got the PAN. I used one of the online website (https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/) and if I remember correctly I got the PAN within 6 weeks. You can check your status using the online tracking and they are reliable to an extent. As this is a straightforward process I do not think you need to use any brokers.

As far as I know, you don't need to update your pay it is only name, and address.

I am not sure about PIO changes and how long it takes to get the update. But I have seen people getting this on the same day while I was waiting for PIO. But check this as these procedures keep changing all the time.
