Family Visit Visa Application for Wife's Pregnancy

Post by garyboy » Wed Jul 24, 2013 9:54 pm

Hi

My wife is a British Citizen and she is planning to have her first pregnancy in the UK at her parent's home.

As we both have been living outside the UK for last couple of years, she is not considered resident in the UK and hence we understand she will have to pay for the NHS pregnancy costs. We will be paying for those up front.

However, I would like to be at my wife's side closer to the delivery due date and 1-2 weeks post delivery. Hence, I am planning to apply for a 6-month family visitor visa.

My question is whether I should mention the pregnancy as a reason for my visit in my application or will it complicate the situation un-necessarily and it may be better to just note reason as spending time with family and sightseeing. I am not sure how the visa / immigration authorities would view this situation and intention to return etc?

I am currently employed and will be paying for my trip and the pregnancy in UK from my income / savings. I will be able to provide proof of my income along with my application.

If I should give pregnancy as the reason in my application, what would be the appropriate supporting documents to provide along with it?

Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks,

a lot depends if the country you have been living in has reciprocal arrangements with the UK. It depends on how long you have been out of the UK but it would appear that you have been out many years, given your previous posts. British Citizens living overseas are not entitled to pop back to the UK to have their babies on the NHS but your spouse could pay for her treatment privately and you could submit this when applying for your visa

She has been out of the UK for a few years now and we absolutely understand she is not entitled to free NHS care currently. However, NHS does offer the option to pay for treatment privately if you are not entitled to free care. We do not intend to seek free NHS care and will be paying for it upfront as I mentioned in my original post.

However, my confusion is how the visa officer may view this situation if put forward in the family visit visa application and whether it may act against the application in any way?
