Exposed as third person on bank account

Post by ermoso5 » Fri Jul 26, 2013 2:05 pm

Hi all!
I am applying for Student VISA. My mother has a bank account which I want to present as a proof of sufficient means. I was told that I can be set as a third person on the same account meaning I will have the same control as my mom. Question is - whether it will be accepted ? Is it likely the embassy may conclude that since my mom has control over the account then the means cannot be accessible to me.

You will be set as a third person? If this account belongs to your mother ONLY, you should be the second account holder right? In that case, you are talking about a joint account. Yes, it is acceptable. You do not need to provide any supporting documents as long as your name is shown on the bank statement/letter.

Why don't you provide the account under your mother's name + birth certificate to show your relationship between your mother and you + consent letter from your mother? Isn't this easier?

Thanks for reply. I think it is not easier since they require the letter from my mom to be certified by a notary(which is btw more expensive). What about bank statement from non-family member? Do you think they will receive the same documentation from a person who is not related to me for example a friend?
