Delaying British citizenship for tax reasons possible?

Post by malikaseth » Tue Jul 30, 2013 6:49 pm

Dear all,

I am an Indian business woman and married to a British citizen a couple of years ago. I run a business in India for which my parents are the main beneficiaries. I have obtained a spouse visa valid until Feb 2014 and am permanently living in the UK with my husband. I understand that after Feb 2014 I am eligible to apply for ILR or permanent residence. That is the route which most people take.

However, due to some tax reasons, I do not yet want to obtain the ILR / British passport when my spouse visa expires Feb 2014 and continue to be on a dependent spouse visa. Is that possible to renew spouse visa after the initial term expires?

I will be grateful for as many responses as possible.

Thank you,

Malika Seth

Tax reasons? Are you evading paying uk income tax? You do not get a British Passport when you get ILR, you have to naturalise first to become British!

I am not evading UK income tax if I have an Indian passport and the UK has nothing to do with my business as it is located in India.

I did not ask for tax advice or policing please. Please only reply to the question if you can. I am a full law abiding citizen who wishes to manage my tax affairs like any sensible individual or company does. legally of course!
