Problems getting a UK visa for unmarried couple with a child

Post by Dmalebon » Tue Aug 06, 2013 8:14 am

I am a British citizen and my partner is Turkish and we are having such problems trying to get just a UK tourist visa. I was quite happy living in Turkey until we had a child and I've gone back and forth since because I want to be around my family more. However I have decided to return to education and I will be starting university in the UK in September so I won't be able to travel as often. I would like for my partner to be able to come and visit the UK considering I can't travel as often and it is also very difficult carting a 2 and half year old back and forth all the time. We have applied for a tourist visa twice before, once in Turkey and once in Azerbaijan because my partner worked there for a year but got denied both times. One common reason is because we're not proving that our son is also his but because we are not married his name cannot be on the birth certificate. I don't know what we can do as an unmarried couple to ensure we get a tourist visa in the future. Any help or suggestions?

Why do you have to prove that he is the father of your child just to get a tourist visa?

Why isn't your son British?

Yes my son is British and we're applying as a family tourist visa not a general tourist visa. I've been told maybe I should just try for the general one but it just doesn't feel right to me, I'm not sure how it'd work like that.

If your son is British then he should be able to get a British passport? So, is it only your Unmarried partner who will be applying for a visa?

My son is a British citizen and lives with me in the UK, the problem is my partner getting a tourist visa to come and visit us. Because we're unmarried I am unable to put his name on the birth certificate which therefore means we have no 'proof' that we have a child together.

Sorry for the confusion.

Perhaps a DNA test may help with the proof.
