Is OCI the current trend vs. PIO card?

Post by quantumscience » Sat Aug 10, 2013 1:19 pm

Hi

I currently hold a PIO card but I see that most of the recent naturalising citizens are going for only OCI card, including all in this forum - I have not seen many PIO card applicants.

I know the difference between the advantages of oci vs pio card, in fact the difference is very very less, and not at all that really important to matter in practical sense.

So given that, and the fact that pio application takes very less time and complexity compared to oci card process, I am wondering why almost all are going for OCI card and not pio card.

It will help me understand any benefits that I may not know about holding a oci card, and probably let me apply for it too :)

Thanks.

I don't think OCI application is complex - pretty straight forward process with simple documentation.

OCI application fee is less than for PIO, OCI requires only 1 renewal after attaining 50 years of age, and no need to register with FRRO for stay beyond 180 days - given a choice I would apply for OCI.
