Child Benifit

Post by dk2011 » Sun Aug 11, 2013 8:59 pm

Hi , I got my ILR on 5th july,2013 and my dependents got ILR on 7th august 2013. My Gross salary is 48K . Can i claim child benefit ?
Also , regarding documents it is mentioned that one need to send original birth certificate.
What about passport/BRP ? Can i send photocopy or all documents have to be original ?

Your income is approaching the high income level, but yes you can claim, see http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/childbenefit/

You'll need to send a copy of your BRP along with the child's birth certificate.

Amber , I have checked form and it has a section for spouse NI number.
My wife doesn't work and she doesn't have NI number either. Does she need to apply before we can claim benefit or mine is sufficient?

She should get a NI number, call 0845 600 0643 and just say you need it for a job and they should issue one soon.
