EU (Non Brtisth) partner

Post by anurag2206 » Mon Aug 12, 2013 1:18 pm

This is my first post, so if i ask something silly apologies.

I am living with my girlfriend who is a German citizen (living and working in UK), and I am a non EU citizen currently staying on post study work permit, which will expire in Aug 2014 and for my visa extension I read, 'if a non married couple is living for 2 years together, the visa can be extended. We have been living together for 6 months but i don't have my name on tenancy agreement or on any bills which we have started to do now.

so my question is 'since she is a EU citizen' will i get visa extension for 2 years or 5' as I read if the partner is EU (non-British) citizen the extension is of 5 years, but couldn't find that on Home office's website.

So if someone has traveled in this boat, please share your experience.

Thanks very much.

Unmarried partners of EEA nationals can apply on EEA2 form which if successful then 5 years residence permit is granted. In order to be eligible, EU national must be a qualified person and non- eu national can be able to demonstrate relationship with EU national with the documents such as joint bank account, tenancy agreement, bills, travel, family gathering/photograph etc for minimum of 2 years although the application can be successful on shorter period than that in cases if the partners have child.
On submission the application, non-eu national will not get right of work until the application is decided which is the actual time when non-eu national is actually recognized the family member of EU national.
Please donot send PM. Write in open forum to facilitate others too.

Hi Sheraz,

Thanks very much for your reply.

At the time of the application I will have the evidence of prove the co-habitation of almost 18 months, but our relationship will be older than 2 years at that time.

I have read, if the applicant can prove that the relationship is genuine even though the cohabitation is around 18-24 months, visa is still granted.

I am so confused and not sure what are my options to prove that the relationship is genuine.

Thanks in advance.
