Can someone please explain to me the fundamentals of:-
1. What is the difference between a Class 1A permit from a port of entry and a Family Permit (FP).
2. If a class 1a permit was obtained at the port of entry instead of the advance FP does that in any way reduce the likelihood of a residence permit in due course or make the process more protracted.

A class 1A stamp is issued at the port of entry where a non-EEA family member presents themselves at a UK border, is accompanying their EU spouse but doesn't have a EEA family permit to hand.

Neither makes a difference in that the non-EEA family member has the same rights of residence in the UK (provided their EU spouse is resident in the UK) whether or not they hold a EEA Family permit.

There are other ways to prove rights of residence in the absence of a EEA Family permit like proof of EU national exercising treaty rights, proof of r/ship with EU spouse, proof of continuous UK residence.

It is possible to obtain a residence card with neither a family permit or code 1A. What is important is the EU national's activities.
