Overstayed in Canada - how to activate new visa

So i was told by an immigration officer when i joined a friend who flagpoled not to leave the country and come back as a tourist and stay in Canada on implied status whilst waiting for my new visa to come.

I am on frst year IEC visa and have since found out that i cant have implied status and im actually here when I shouldnt be. I also wasnt actually waiting for a decision on my visa i was waiting for a new police cert to come through because when i applied last year was told i could use the same one then found out i cant.

I have my visa now but now i dont now how to activate it because now the new entry/exit thing with usa - they will know when i left canada.

Yes the new entry exit has come into effect 30 June. As per my understanding this is only land borders, you may be better off flying, check it out with others with experience.
