Can dependent be primary applicant for schengen visa

Hi all.. i am on Tier 1 General visa (Non EU citizen) and planning to apply for schengen visa for my Europe tour however i have left job in June and don't have salary slip for July. Can this be a problem for getting a visa for me and wife ?

However my wife is working and she has the salary slip for last three months. Can she be the primary applicant for schengen visa and i can be show myself dependent on her.
