Dear All,

This forum is always very useful specially when there are changes to rules, I have query for the new rule for Knowledge of Language & Life in UK,
My wife passed Life in UK test last year and she got ILR(my Dependent), she will be eligible to apply for British Citizenship after 28 October 2013.

Could someone please advise if she needs to pass any other English Language course to meet the new requirements or LIUK is enough as she haven't done any degree from the UK, she had Masters in Arts from Pakistan (can it help).

Yes if that MA is comparable to a UK degree as per NARIC and was taught in English it should suffice the new requirement in addition to her LIUK test.

Thanks Amber for your reply, although this MA is equivalent to UK Degree but it was not taught in English.

Could you please advise what English course will be required to fulfill this requirement OR LIUK is suffice after October as the ILR was issued last year on the basis of LIUK

The LIUK test alone would not suffice.

All we can say at the moment is:

English language qualifications

A range of English language qualifications will be accepted as evidence that an applicant has met the B1 level speaking and listening requirements.

These include:

Qualifications covering speaking and listening at B1 or above from the Home Office's Secure English Language Test (SELT) list.

ESOL qualifications at entry level 3 or level 1 or level 2, including speaking and listening, that have been regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). The qualification must be listed as an ESOL qualification on the Ofqual Register of Regulated Qualifications and must have been taken in England, Wales or Northern Ireland.

A National Qualification in ESOL at Scottish Qualifications Framework levels 4, 5 or 6, awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority and taken in Scotland.
