I toyed with moving this to the Ireland section, but since return to the UK is your goal, it is probably better where it is.Linz wrote:Hello everyone, I am aware that this is by no means a new topic and I apologise for perhaps going over things that have been gone over many times but its new for me and I need to clarify!
I am 27 years old, from Northern Ireland. I have recently become engaged to my indian fiancé. We would like to get married in the uk (we are thinking mid 2014) and eventually live in the uk.
1. We are going to apply for a uk visit to marriage visa. Does he need to return to India after the wedding or can we directly move to Ireland while he is on the uk marriage visa and transfer it to a living with spouse in Ireland visa by visiting the Irish embassy in Dublin? If not - does he need a visa to come to Ireland from India? I've seen posts on this and other websites where people turn up at airports with their passport and marriage certificate and get a stamp to grant entry for 3 months.
2. Can I relocate my self employed business from Northern Ireland or would it be more convenient to get a basic job in Ireland?
3. Can we safely move back and forwards over the border during this time?
Thank you so much in advance for any advice or experiences. We really appreciate any help on this issue.
Lindsey
For your fiancee visa questions, best to ask in the relevant part of the forum. I understand that one could extent permission to stay in the UK if one so wished to take that up. People in that situation may not require a return flight.Linz wrote:
To get the initial marriage visa we have to prove that my husband will return to India within 6 months as that's the validity of the marriage visa.
You can simply cross the border. A British citizen is entitled to exercise their right of freedom of movement. They are entitled to have their family members with them.Linz wrote:Hi, another question has come to mind.
As I live in Northern Ireland there is no border control to enter from Ireland, we just drive in. If we were to fly in can hubby go through immigration at Belfast international airport or do we have to go to London or is this an irrelevant step - can we just drive freely over the border (with our EEA), find us both jobs in Northern Ireland and then apply for EEA2?
Thank you
