non- EU spouse of an EU member - visa

Post by gab333 » Thu Aug 29, 2013 4:39 pm

Please, if someone could answer me
I am EU citizen, but my husband is non - EU.
I got job offer in Republic of Ireland and planning to move, but he needs a visa to enter to Ireland. Do we have to apply to the nearest embassy or it can be issued when entering Republic of Ireland? Do have to go first or we can go together? It would be first time entering Ireland. Thanks in advance.

hi
it depends where are your spouse from. if you husband is from non visa required country then everything good. but if he is from visa required country ,he has to apply to the nearest embassy for visa. In my case the visa issuance took 4 months to be made a decision. depends an embassy staff and country in my opinion.
good luck!

Thank you zaza.
He is from visa required country..
I was just wondering is it better for me to go to Ireland, get a job and everything and than he can apply for visa, or to apply while I am still here, or to go together and get visa issued at the airport - is that even possible? :?
What's the best option?

You won't have a visa issued at the airport. However if you are traveling together there is an option for him to travel to Ireland with you and enter without a visa.

To give you more flexibility and play it safe though, it probably is a better idea to apply for a visa. As the family member of an EU citizen, he is entitled to get it free of charge and all you will have to provide are both your passports and you marriage certificate (plus a letter to confirm to them that you are planning on traveling or settling together in Ireland on the basis of European Directive 2004/38/EC).
