Housing benefit - landlord's consent

Post by hpgalliford » Fri Aug 30, 2013 9:34 pm

Hi
Please advise on this one

Do we have to take a permission or seek the landlords consent before applying for a housing benefit? I have been living in a 2 bed appartment and was thinking to apply for a housing benefit. I am working full time and my wife is currently not working as she is looking after our two kids at home.
Although I have always paid my rent in time, but im afraid if my landlord gets to know that i am applying for a housing benefit he may not renew my contract which is due in 3 months
Does my applying housing benefit affect my landlord in anyway?

Please advise

Regards

F

You are both settled/British.

If you've been good tenants I don't see an issue, some landlords say no 'benefit tenants' but if you have a good past and continue to pay the rent on time s(he) should be ok.

I read your previous afterwards.

If you've been good tenants I don't see an issue, some landlords say no 'benefit tenants' but if you have a good past and continue to pay the rent on time s(he) should be ok. Tell your landlord what you are doing and that should resolve any fear.

Ok, thanks

Is there a legal requirement to inform your landlord before applying for a housing benefit? or wait until council contact the landlord themselves.
I have the tennancy agreement, and the rent goes directly from my bank account, so previous bank statments. utility, and council tax bills etc will this be a sufficient proof of tennancy?

Thanks and Regards

Well housing benefit will be paid to you, so perhaps a discussion is not necessary though to avoid any undue tension perhaps discuss?

Your evidence should suffice.
