Start date on CoS

Post by ShrutiBlue » Wed Sep 18, 2013 11:29 am

I'm switching from PSW to Tier 2 and my boss is just filling out the form to get a CoS for me. I've been working for the company for the last 1.5 years.

As I understand, the start date to be mentioned on the CoS must be in the future, but it doesn't have to be the date after my current leave expires as this is a new application and not an extension (we were a bit confused about that). But my question is, if my boss puts the date as the 1st of December 2013 (my PSW expires on 12th December 2013), is that the date the CoS would be valid from, or would the validity of the CoS be from the date we get it?

Thanks a lot!

Shruti

Re Validity of COS

Post by gasl8 » Wed Sep 18, 2013 5:23 pm

From my understanding all you trying to do is apply for an extension. In that case your Boss will get you a unrestricted certificate and then you will use that certificate and apply for extension. I belive this process does not take very long. You should go ahead and get your visa extended. Why wait till the end ?

CoS are valid as soon as issued - they expire 3 months later - so in your case you could use it any time between assigning and your visa expiring.

gasl8- I am switching from PSW to Tier 2, not applying for extension.

Thanks guys, my boss went ahead and applied for the CoS anyway and our doubt was cleared when we saw it.

Hey mate could you please tell me what he wrote there? I am in the same situation, don't know what to write in Start Date. Could you please shed some light on this? Thanks!

VirtualWaver- My boss put in 1st December 2013 as the start date, but you can choose any date before your PSW expires. We just chose a safe date which is a bit before my PSW expires and a bit after I would get my Tier 2.

Thanks mate! Did UKBA grant you 3 years' visa based on Start Date (that is until 1st of December, 2016) or they granted you the visa from the date they made their decision? Thanks.

My new visa was issued on 2nd October and is valid until 14th December 2016, which is 14 days after the "end date" mentioned on my CoS (30th November 2016). So its definitely more than 3 years!

Yeah I know, the same thing is with me :) Everything is so confusing!

A bit offtop: do you know by a chance if it is ok that I am working 37,5 hours instead of 40 (my SOC salary is based on Incomes Data Services, which is 40 hours per week)? They want 25500 for 40 hours, but I earn 25000 for 37,5. Is it ok or I have to work 40 hours and earn 25500? Thanks!
