Question for my current ESOL certificate

Post by shani_haider » Tue Sep 24, 2013 1:07 pm

Hi Guys,

I have been doing search from last 3 days and getting more confused and mad regarding new Knowledge of language and life in the UK requirements.

I cleared following English test on 06 April 2009 for my Tier 1(General) Application which was successful and got my first successful extension again in 2012.

EDI Level 2 Certificate ESOL International JETSET Level 6 (CEF C1)
Accreditation No: 500/3330/X

I have attached my certificate for more details about it.

Me and my Wife got ILR on 7th November 2012 and according to ukba law we need to be free from immigration time restrictions during the last 12 months of the residential qualifying period. My 12 months completes on 6th November 2013 (When I will fall under new KoLl rules). Me and my wife have already cleared life in UK exam as that was part of settlement requirements. Now I have following questions:

1. Can I apply for my naturalisation before 28th October so that I dont need to follow new KOLL rules for having a speaking and listening qualification in English at B1 CEFR or higher, or its equivalent.

2. If I need to complete 12 months then can I use attached certificate to satisfy my speaking and listening requirements. I did contacted EDI and they said that home office have stopped accepting JetSet level 6 any more and advised to contact HO for confirmation. I tried couple of numbers for HO but all of them refer to their site and then line drops.

3. For my wife I am planning her to give Pearson Test of English Academic
(PTE Academic) as we can get result for this test in 5 days.

4. According to HO
Qualifications covering speaking and listening at B1 or above from the Secure English Language Test (SELT) list in the Immigration Rules, Appendix O. The SELT list is available at:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... htests.pdf

Qualifications in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at Entry level 3, Level 1 or Level 2, that include speaking and listening and that have been regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). The qualification must be listed as an ESOL qualification on the Ofqual Register of Regulated Qualifications and have been taken in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. The Ofqual register is available at:

http://register.ofqual.gov.uk/2

I tried to search for my qualification on this database and found following:

http://register.ofqual.gov.uk/Qualifica ... 500_3330_X

which states qualification name as

Pearson EDI Level 2 Certificate in ESOL International

But on my certificate qualification name is

EDI level 2 Certificate in ESOL International JETSET level 6 (CEF C1).

Can some one please verify if I can use same certificate or do I need to give another exam or any working number for HO to contact.

Thanks in advance.

You should be ok as you've met an English required as a PBS applicant. Moreover I assume you have a degree taught in English?
