Benefit Adviser Vs HMRC Tax calculator

Post by alondon » Thu Sep 26, 2013 11:02 pm

Hi

I am very confused. I have a salary of about £25,500 and have one child. No child care cost involved. Wife not working since last 1.5 years. We both have ILR for more than year and already claiming child benefit which is £20.3 per week

According to benefit adviser tax credit calculator, I can claim about £135 per week and according to HMRC tax credit calculator, I can claim only about £3.75 per week.

I spoke to three different person in child tax credit helpline over last week and been advised by two adviser that I can't claim anything and from one advior I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I CAN CLAIM £135 PER WEEK (excluding child benefit) which is right according to benefit tax credit calculator ( gov. uk) if I submit JOINT APPLICATION.

I have submitted new tax credit claim form last week and have been advised this week that I will get only £3.75 per week. still waiting for paperwork to come through.

Can I challenge HMRC, as I am getting different information from different people and different calculator?

Can I send them print out from BENEFIT ADVISER tax credit calculator?

How can I challenge HMRC?

What are chances to get more child tax credit and working tax credit?

You'd get roughly £340 per year so the lesser figure is correct.
