Tier2 Dependent visa:Can we apply now or do we have to wait?

Hello Folks,

My wife is a PSW visa which runs on in January. I want to transfer her as my Tier2 dependent (I know we have to leave the country and apply from outside).

I have made appointments/reservations to go to the UK embassy/visa centre in about 2 weeks however a question crossed my minds and its driving me nuts:

"Can we apply for a dependent visa now or do we have to wait for the PSW to run out?"

I have been google-ing for this all weekend and UKBA's website but cannot find anything. Any advice would be highly appreciated.
