you can apply for ILR up to 28 days before you complete 5 year period, so starting with 28-05-14
even though your visa expires ten days before that, current rules allow you to make your application for up to 28 days after the expiration of your current stay
so i think it may be doable
however you will have only one shot at this -- if anything with your application is wrong or payment is denied, you will be in a very sticky situation
so if you have funds for a second extension, it would of course be better to do it.
