Tier 2 General visa - Challenges

Hi All, I have Tier 2 General visa which is sponsored by my employer. I am actively looking for contracting roles in SAP IS-U Billing.
Last week I have successfully cleared the interview and I have sent all the details to the recruiter(agency), but at the very last stage after they saw my scanned copy of biometric card they said I cannot work with this visa. Because of which I was loosing other opportunities for last couple of weeks. My VISA is a sponsored visa, where my sponsor will take care of my salary, PAYE etc...

As far as I know Tier 2 General is the only way to work in this UK (other than Tier1/HSMP which was stopped 3 years before).

My questions:
(1) Anyone in this forum doing contracting/permanent with Tier 2 General visa?
(2) What are all the challenges we have to face with this Tier 2 General sponsored visa?
(3) In case if the job offer demands contracting roles, why they cant make agreement with my sponsor?
