Immigration Appeal

I have to attend an appeal in Newport with my wife regrading her son's visa application being rejected. I didn't expect this to be on the other side of the country so will travel the day before to get their, overnight stay, then the day of the appeal.
I am the sole carer for my own son who I cannot remove from school and is to young to leave overnight on his own.
Under the circumstances can I specify that this is held more local to me?
