English language B1 Level

Post by vinaymuniraju » Sun Oct 06, 2013 1:53 pm

Hi,

I am writing regarding the B1 Level requirement for ILR.

I have overall scoring of 49% at Pearson Academic report. However, I have scored one mark less in writing to meet B1 grade. Can any one please confirm that UKBA consider writing skills for B1?

I have scored which will prove speaking and Listening as per UKBA new update after 28,Oct-13

As per the update from UKBA only mentioned speaking and listening:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... -of-intent

I am confused that whether I should meet all requirement at B1 level

Can anyone please suggest.

Regards,
Vinay

We will accept a range of English language qualifications as evidence that an applicant has met
the requirement to hold a B1 level speaking and listening qualification. This will help ensure that all
those needing to take a test will be able to find one suitable for their needs and, so far as possible,
that no one who already has an English language qualification at B1 level or above will be required
to take another one.
The following qualifications will be accepted for settlement and naturalisation purposes:
• Qualifications covering speaking and listening at B1 or above from the Secure English
Language Test (SELT) list in the Immigration Rules, Appendix O. The SELT list is
available at:
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... htests.pdf
• Qualifications in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at Entry level 3, Level
1 or Level 2, that include speaking and listening and that have been regulated by the
Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). The qualification must be
listed as an ESOL qualification on the Ofqual Register of Regulated Qualifications and
have been taken in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. The Ofqual register is available
at: http://register.ofqual.gov.uk/2.
• A National Qualification in ESOL at Scottish Qualifications Framework (SCQF) levels 4, 5
or 6 awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).

My score report at Pearson PTE Academic. As per PTE academic we need to have minimum grade mark 36 in all 4 section. Since, I have not scored 36 in writing this will not fall under B1 category. However, my overall score combining all four is 49%.

My question is do I need to prove my writing skills to B1 grade while applying for ILR. UKBA mentioned only to have speaking and listening for B1.

My score report:
Over All Score is 49%:
Communicative Skills

Minimum grade score report of PTE Academic is as below:
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) Pearson
B1
Listening – 36
Reading – 36
Writing – 36
Speaking – 36

Can you please suggest ?

If your test demonstrates that you meet the B1 level speaking and listening qualification requirement and is on the new approved test list (due soon) that should suffice. If for example, it cannot be determined whether you meet the requirement (as it is not stipulated on the test) you may need to do a new test.

reply from Pearson view

Hi Vijay,

I received the following reply from PearsonPTE and believe this should be enough for the UKBA to consider Listening and Speaking score only if the Reading/writing is less than 36.

I spoke to HomeOffice as well and they said if Pearson confirms as below then it should be fine.

Thank you for your email regarding PTE Academic Scores

This is to inform you that for the B1 level you would have to score 36 each in listening and the speaking section for "Indefinite Leave to Remain" visa. Please check

with UK Border Agency.

If you have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact me.
