So, it looks like all work migrants/students applying for entry clearance, or leave to remain, will have to pay at least 200 pounds a year per person, in addition to what they pay now.

This is not an insignificant amount. If one applies for a 3 year visa, and with 2 dependents, they'll have to pay an additional 1,800 pounds. If the fee is set at 500 pounds, they'll have to shell out an additional 4,500 pounds.
