subsidaary protection

Today I received a informative letter and application confirmation notice form about subsidiary protection which I applied about 5 years ago and I never new that this letter would be issued to me any more (I was not expecting this letter or something any more). but my situation is following. After this application I had applied 5 years ago I got married with EU wife and have 4 EU children here in Ireland,whilst after this application I had left the state and was not here almost 4 years,though I have arrived in ireland a month ago.
What would you advise me to do: Do the documents like residency and right of work by my EU family or send them the subsidiary application form filled out by me anyway? or do both altogether?

Sorry for the odd question, Can some one please explain what is subsidaary protection in few simple words ?

Subsidiary protection is for people who do not qualify to be regarded as refugee, I have seen a number of times when one individual has been refuse refugee application and will immediately apply for subsidiary protection.

I will advice the op not to go ahead with the subsidiary protection just to keep it simple, EU rules are more favourable.
