Home carer tax credit

Post by alegalalien » Wed Oct 16, 2013 5:45 pm

Hi All,

I just wonder, if the wife has no job and staying at home taking care of kids,
Can we claim the Home Carer tax credit ?

Does it affect her possibility for Irish citizenship application a few years later ?

And is it possible for the wife to register for a PAYE account on PAYE website as she has PPS number but no job, no tax ?

Thank you.

No you can not Claim the Home Carers Tax Credit , i am of the opinion that such a credit is for people who care for elderly /ill/disabled persons only , not for your own Kids . i am however not 100% sure , so please i am open to correction on this matter . thank you all , and wishing you the best of Luck .

Who is a dependent person?
A dependent person is a:

Child for whom Child Benefit is payable
Person aged 65 or over
Person with a disability that requires care.
A dependent person you are caring for cannot be a spouse or civil partner. They can however, be a relative by marriage, or someone for whom you act as a legal guardian.
