Loss of passport before GNIB Registration

Post by chaoclive » Mon Oct 21, 2013 12:35 am

A friend of mine and her Sudanese husband moved to Ireland so she could exercise EUTR and then return to the UK under Surinder Singh.

Now, they have been there for about 3 weeks and the husband has lost his passport with the original entry visa supplied by the Irish Embassy in London in it BEFORE GNIB registration (probably when they moved from a hotel to a house in Dublin).

Who do they contact now? He won't only need a new passport, but will also need to get a new visa. Does he still have to wait the 6-9 months that it will take INIS to give him one? Can he still work?

Cheers
Chaoclive

PS: This enquiry is NOT for me. It's for a friend who's living in Dublin but has only sporadic internet at the moment.

I have a question:

Does your friend have any photo copy of his Irish visa issued by Irish embassy London and the visa that is extended on the Dublin airport when they arrived ?

Next, your friend need to go to the local garda station and report the lost passport, and ask the Gardai to provide him the copy of the report.

Next, your friend need to contact his embassy (Sudan) to get a new passport.(they will ask him for the Garda report for the lost passport).

Next, once your friend have a new passport, he should go to GNIB to extend his visa. At that stage the Immigration officer in the GNIB can ask him for the photo copy of his issued visa from Irish Embassy London.

Please make sure, ur friend shouldn't loose the Garda report for lost passport, he will need this from time to time for the next couple of years on different occasions...you never know.

Good Luck
