PIO Application Process - Steps UK

Hi All,

Wanted to share my recent experience with regards to recent PIO application made via post. I was very worried as there was no way of tracking applications like you can do with OCI and also for the applications you need to post original documents. You can of course make the application via the embassy it self

Things that I used to make :

2 x copies of application forms filled out - I had them hand written
4 x UK sized passport - 1 stuck on the original application 3 others included.
1 x Applicant british passport = Original
1 x Applicant british passport = copy for thier reference
1 x Marriage certiicate = Original
1 x Marriage certiicate = copy for thier reference
1 x copy of full birth certificate

Depending on the basis of your application you will also need the following:

1 x copy of PIO or OCI on the basis of application
or
1 x copy of naturalisation cert / copy of cancelled indian passport or surrender certificate


1 x Postal order for £217 (note there will be more to pay to post office for PO charge)


From the day of submission expect anything from 4 to 8 weeks for the PIO to be processed.

The HCI London website suggests the PIO card will be issues within 4 weeks. Do you know any examples whenerin it was delayed more than 4 weeks?

Not sure I understand - What kind of examples are you looking for? I dont apply for other people so cannot comment on other delays.

Hello guys

I need a quick help regarding PIO Form Question No 15:

15. Have you or your parents or grand parents were born and were permanently resident in territories falling in present day India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, as on 30/03/1999. If yes, please give the following details:

I and my parents born in Mumbai which is not a territory, I hope I should leave the question blank?

Please advise urgently as I m going tomorrow morning to HCI.

Mumbai does fall into India terrority, so you should provide the details of where you lived during that time.

Does Mumbai fall in Pakistan territory?

I think it is a typo. If you see the form on CGI Birmingham website, you will find that they only ask about Pakistan and Bangladesh.

But wait. They ask for something different on US and Ireland embassy website. So, God knows what they want to know.
