General Visit Visa for mother, 5 months left on my visa

Hi,

I have a query regarding my Mother General Visit Visa.

We have a baby boy and we would like our mother to visit us and meet her grand son.

We are planning to apply for her visa next month.

However by that time I will be left with months on my current visa Tier 2.

I will be applying for extension in May 2014 for myself. It will be too late if I apply for mother visa after my extension, and it highly unlikely that we will be visiting back home before extension.

My question is, could we apply for her general visit visa for 6 months, when I will be left only 5 months on my visa.

As far as i know if you are applying as general visitor that's not a problem but if you are applying as a family visitor then i guess you can't.
