Hi
I am sure this quoestion has been asked before, but please can some one please answer me .
My wife is on Spouse Visa (Indian) and she will apply for her PR end of 2014.
I am British Citizen, can we apply for Child Benefit, as we recently had a baby and if we do so will it affect her ILR application next year??
Please clarify me.

You should claim child benefit in your name and tax credits in joint names. You may also be eligible for the Sure Start Maternity Grant and you should apply if you're refused then reapply as soon as tax credits or another qualifying benefit is awarded (if it is).

but what are tax credits and what is eligibility, i tried to look in the website but couldn't understand.
Please advise if you can

Tax credits is designed for those on low incomes, so it depends what your income is and how many hours you work. You can get a rough guide on whether you are eligible here.

I am trying to fill in Child benefit form and in the form the quoestion asks my Marital status.(Married, Single or Partner)
What should i answer as??
As i my spouse is going to apply for her ILR end of next year and i dont want it to affect her ILR.
Please advise.

If you're married you write married.

Yes i am married, but it asks my wifes details as well.
if i give these details, will it affect my wifes visa???

Hi Amber
I got ILR last week ago under (Tier G 1)
my income was 2012-2013 was (salary= 14K+ Self emnloyed 23K) Total 37000+.
since Jan 2013 I am no more working as self employed.
I am working in company and I got only 14K only (salary).

I would like to apply for Child Tax credit. I check with HMRC calculator,
It ask last year erning and Answer I get 0.00.(Zero on basis of 37000 earning) tax credit.

Colud you please clarify me, is that correct and can I qualify for child credit on basis of current salary.(my wife is not working)

Contact the Tax Credit Helpline and ask them for an estimate.

Use the Tax Credits Calculator.

Appreciate that the Government is far less generous with Tax Credits than used to be the case, even a couple of years ago.
