I was annoyed with UK Visa & Immigrations way of handelling EEA family members where they on one hand said an EEA Family Permit is not required and on the other hand leagally obligating the carriers denying boarding a EEA Family member who are not in possesion of an EEA Family permit.
So I worte to the then UKBA and never got any reply.
I then raised the issue with my MP as you can see in this PDF document https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/980 ... o%20MP.pdf
After 7+ months he can back with a reply from UK Visas & Immigration as you can see they did not tell us anything we did not already know....

As UK Visa & Immigration basically tells its not a requirement to have an EEA Family Permit but the carriers are the ones obstructing free travells I then emailed them i.e TIMATIC https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/980 ... ic%201.pdf
TIMATIC came back basically saying; well we follow UK Visa and Immigration guidance and we have raised this with them before and we will now raise this again.

I then wrote to my MP to follow up on this reply from UK Visa & Immigration as follows:
-----------------------------
Dear Mr. Sarwar,
Many thanks for forwarding the reply your received from UK Visa & immigration regarding my questions relating EEA Family Permits.
Unfortunately, as usual, UK & Immigration does not answer all the raised issues but stops where it becomes embarrassing to them.
They basically replied to what we already know i.e just confirming what is public policy and avoid replying to the remaining issues. Hence could you please raise the remaining outstanding matters with UK Visa & Immigration.
[....]I would like to know why the UK urge/encourage EU family members who are visa nationals to obtain EEA family clearance before they travel [.....]
As the latest reply enclosed in the attachment UK Visa & Immigration there is no mandatory requirement that an EEA Family Permit in order to travel to the UK. Yet UK Visa & Immigration enforce airlines only to allow family members board a flight to the UK if they have a EEA family permit when travelling to the UK.
Why is the UK Visa & Immigration / The Minister advising the airline industry to comply with something they themselves in the reply to you claims is no obligation to obtain?
Please also see my notes on the attached reply from UK Visa & Immigration to you.
Your sincerely,
Michael L
