Tier 5 ( Government Authorised Exchange )

Post by Danielteng » Tue Oct 29, 2013 12:23 am

Hi everyone,

I was just approved to apply a tier 5(AGE) visa through an internship scheme, but the organisation who runs the scheme requires an undertaking from both of me and my employer, which is " the employer must not intend to employ me in that role at the end of internship" and " I must also intend to pursue a career overseas at the end of internship" if I want to switch my current tier 4 to Tier 5 visa within the UK. However, if I go back my country for an entry clearance, the undertaking will not be required.

I am very curious about if it makes sense and why they want us to promise that?

What does it really mean? If my employer was to become a tier 2 sponsor, could he still be able to employ me after this scheme ends if I leave the UK and apply the Tier 2 visa in my country?

Or does this undertaking only mean I can not apply tier 5 under the same GAE scheme?

And will this undertaking be sent to Home Office so that it will affect my application in the future ?

I am very curious

The UKBA does not want people to start a job here under an internship and then go on to full-time long term employment. The schemes they have are essentially to give people some experience of seeing the world (and the commonwealth primarily) before returning home and settling down. They don't want schemes like the YMS to be a route to living here permanently.
