Very confused and worried

Hello, completely new here..

Here's my dilemma.
Been living with my husband for two years now, known each other for over eight years. I've sent off my SET (M) form back on the 10th of this month (eee! so much money!) . Fingers crossed and anxiously waiting everything goes well and I get accepted soon as possible. Lost my job back in January this year and of course no help allowed through any public funds so it's been a juggle getting through with bills and groceries.

I got offered a job last month just when I was going to apply for my ILR, it's part-time at a charity shop that I've volunteered in for two years now. But the director of the place isn't sure if he should pay me because I don't have a biometric permit, therefore he thinks I may not be here for long. Or that he might be in trouble for employing someone who isn't here permanently just yet. I don't understand!

I'm at a loss as to what I can do.. anyone else would tell me just don't work there, but I don't have my passport so I can't really search for another job right now.. so at the moment I still help out, and try to count it as hopeful good experience.

Yes, the employer simply needs to use the UKBA employer checking service.
