Austrian FAMILIENANGEHÖRIGER Permit..How Long Can i be away?

Hi guys..newbie here.

Ok so I'm American and holder of the Austrian FAMILIENANGEHÖRIGER 1 year residence permit which is given to spouses of Austrian Citizens. I live in Austria but I have been in the States for 5 months since my second renewal was issued this year. So for the record,i have been to a NON-SCHENGEN country ie. USA and need to return again.

I have tried to google up and down for this info but nowhere to be found...

What is the maximum allawed time I can be away and not risk losing my permit? My understanding is (and I could be wrong with this as I have found no proof one way or the other) 5 months out of the year in question..what happens if one needs to be out of the country (again non-Schengen country ie USA) again AFTER that 5 months period.
