English Test For Spouse Visa

Post by gambiajoe » Sun Dec 08, 2013 1:11 pm

In readiness for our application for our spouse visa, we are trying to arrange my wife to take the English language test that is required.
My wife's spoken and understanding of English is good and she has no problem in communicating in English and has worked many years in the tourist industry, so is used to speaking in English with guests.
A visa advice specialist advised her to take to TOEFL test and thought she wouldn't have a problem with this.

However I've looked at this online and it seems very academic orientated and seems to cover a much higher level than is necessary.

I've read that this test only grades at a minimum of B1 and cannot be used to show any level below that should you not achieve a high enough score.

I've looked through some example questions and find it myself a bit too wordy and can often be ambiguous on some answers, where I myself could not be certain of the correct one and I am born and bred in the UK have a first class honours degree in Engineering!

So I've worried that we will pay out the $160 and it will all be wasted, not to mention cause undue stress.

Does anyone have any experience of this test? Or can anyone advise us on the best test for us to take?
She would have to take this test in the Gambia.
