Marriage on Tier 2 visa with non-EEA not in the UK

Post by gj1206 » Wed May 07, 2014 10:44 am

Hello,

Just need some help figuring this out. My fiance and I are considering getting married in the UK; however, he's from a non-EEA country, and I understand the fiance visa is for those who have been together for 5 years, which rules it out completely. We're looking at the marriage visitor visa (https://www.gov.uk/marriage-visa/eligibility) which says you can come to the UK for the purpose of marrying but would have to leave before the end of 6 months.

What we're wondering is, if you've applied for that visa, does that mean you cannot apply for a dependent (I'm on Tier 2) visa from outside the UK after the marriage visitor visa validity lapses?

You've misunderstood. There is no 5 year requirement for a fiance visa.
