Need to pick the brain of a airport border control expert..!

Hello everyone. I have a Malaysian friend who was traveling a few days ago to Netherlands and then to UK from there. He misunderstood a question from the border control in Netherlands and made it sound to them as though he was intending to work there.

He was put on a plane back to Malaysia! He wants to come to UK now, but is worried about the bad stamp on his passport, and any information about this mishap on the worldwide border computer system (or whatever they use), will ruin his chances of entry. He has never had trouble in Europe before.

I would love to help him by advising how best to prepare to come to UK for his visit, as he is really worried that the UK will refuse him now. He has plenty of money and will stay with me and also with relatives here in UK. I would be most grateful for any input. Many thanks in advance!

Obviously if he is concerned about getting a visa on arrival the simple solution is that he should apply for a visit visa before he travels. This will remove any doubt about his entry. We can't make guesses as to what reaction he will be receive when he arrives in the UK.

even valid visa does not guarantee holder will get entry.
for instance a visit visa holder arrives with intention to work or over stay and if immigration officer finds during question .entry will not be give despite having a valid visa

Many thanks to both of you; a visit visa is a good idea. I understand that my friend's entry to UK is still under the discretion of the immigration officer at the airport. It all depends on what is asked and what the replies are. I know that proof of his ties to Malaysia and family & business there should be shown, correct? I have also sent him an invitation letter - which he can bring as well (it simply talks about tourist spots here and that he can stay with me).

Yes - those items do need to be shown - as will your 'sponsorship' letter given the offer of accommodation.

Toofan's prediction of being turned around at the border is one which you only need to worry about if the answers aren't genuine. Are you here to work? No ... How will you get by here? I have x money and my friend will look after me ... etc.

If someone's (for example!) stupid enough to put printed copies of their CV in their bags or carry their work tools with them - then I kinda think they deserve to get turned around!
