Single or Joint application

My parents plan to visit me in UK - as I am not settled person, they are going to apply for General Visa. Do they have to submit two separate applications through Visa4UK website and pay separate visa fee for each of them or is one application enough?

Sorry, the questions can sound a bit silly, but I remember when I was applying for Shengen visa, we had single application with my wife, but of course paid separate visa fee.
