Post by shanyko » Sun Jul 08, 2007 4:30 pm

I am a zimbabwean girl on a student visa. I would like to get married to my british boyfriend here before my visa expires in october. i am worried because i don't want to end up being an illegal citizen and i cannot go back home either

1. how do we go about it?
2. what do we need?
3. how long does it take ?

Wanderer, that was shanyko's first post, so I think you could at least have hinted at what she might search for!

shanyko, you need to apply for and get a Certificate of Approval to Marry. Click here to download the application form. Given that your visa expires in October you need to submit that application form as soon as possible. Aim to get it into the post by this coming Friday at the latest.

Following the issue of the CoA, go to the Register Office and give the needed Notice of Intention to Marry ... then get married ... then apply for a 2-year spouse visa ... using form FLR(M) .... but your priority now is to get that CoA!

The effect of the tax rebates, (three of them) and a lap dance didn't last long?

Nah, I'm back to my well-worn copy of 'Razzle' and a box of tissues......
