Tier 2 - Question about Points for Sponsorship

Post by kimouna » Wed Aug 27, 2014 4:37 pm

I'm applying for the T-2 (General) Visa, on the basis of a Tier 2 (General) "Restricted" Certificate of Sponsorship.

My sponsor has confirmed that the job was on the Agency's list of shortage occupations at the time the CoS was issued AND that they completed a resident labour market test.

Does that mean I score 30 points for the Certificate of Sponsorship (shortage occupation) AND another 30 points for the Certificate of Sponsorship (resident labour market test), fora total of 60? ... or is it just 30 points in total for the CoS?

Thanks in advance for a prompt reply.

Senior Lecturer in Development Studies

I don't know what you mean by code, but the category is Tier 2 (General - New hires - restricted).

Get a printout of your CoS. The SOC code appears under "job type". Although you don't know at present what the job SOC code is your job doesn't appear to be a current shortage occupation:

Seek clarification from your sponsor if it was at the time they assigned the CoS.

btw - SOC = standard occupational classification.

RLMT is not required for shortage occupations, it is one of the exemptions.

Your sponsor may have made a mistake by ticking the shortage occupation box when assigning your CoS. This can be corrected by a sponsor note but only before you make your visa application.

Thank you, Manci.

I have a printout of the CoS and directly under "Job Type" is the job description. No place in the form is SOC mentioned at all -- only the fair market labour test.

It was only by email that the sponsor told me to check YES to both boxes, when I asked them. Perhaps that was incorrect, so I'll follow up with them on it before submitting the application.

Thanks.

the SOC code should be on the line of the "job type", e.g.
2311 university lecturer
or
2312 FE college lecturer
(in these examples the SOC code is 2311 or 2312)
