how to keep dual nationality with malaysian passport

Post by saud27 » Mon Jul 23, 2007 6:23 pm

the scenario
a newborn in malaysia has malaysian passport and has never travelled out of the country on his passport before at the same time he is entitled to british citizenship as we know that malaysia does not recognise dual citizenship so if he were to go to the uk and overstay the 6 months holiday which he intends to do then if he were to renew his passport in the uk they would now he has overstayed and suspect dual nationality , unless he comes back to malaysia and renews it there but there is also a chance for being suspected if stopped

but my idea was that he apply for his uk passport and travel in and out of it from malaysia , and then just renew his malaysian passport in malaysia so it would seem to the authorities there that he has never been out

or is there a way of them detecting by the names if he leaves on his british passport

An alternative is to obtain a Right of Abode stamp in the child's Malaysian passport.

If child is born in Malaysia, it's strongly advisable to get a British consular birth certificate from the British High Commission in KL (if the service is offered in Malaysia).

Lifetime proof of British citizenship in case passport is ever lost.

An easier time dealing with UK schools, employers etc who may not understand (or accept) a Malaysian birth cert.

You should check if Malaysia has a problem with it.
