Marrying with EU national and living in Uk

Post by zubairali » Wed Jul 25, 2007 10:50 am

Hi there,

About Me
I m from pakistan and 've been on student visa since July 2004
I am engaged with a german national and going to get married soon
We both are currently students and would have completed our
studies by the time we get married ( next year) and she will move
to UK with me where I 've been residing for more than three years.

Question .

Will I get the same rights in UK soon after marriage as she gets
being German national (EU national )? or I will get all rights after a
certain period of time ie 2 or 3 years or else?

What about dual nationality ?

I am new to this discussion and expect a senisble anwers from the
smart community of this site and shall be thankfull in advance to
those who will be a good help.

You will be getting your EU rights right after you arrive in the UK after the marriage and is proven with the help of the EEA Family permit/residence Card depending on where you get married.

Once you switch your status to having leave to remain as the spouse of an EEA national then you will have the same rights to work in the UK as your spouse does, for as long as she remains in the UK and as long as you remain married (though you may retain some rights if the situation changes). You won't have any rights to UK benefits until you have ILR.
