Chinese Busines Visa

Dear colleagues,

I wonder if someone can help me. I am on Tier 2 (General) visa which is valid until September 2015. I was planning to visit China to see my class mates. However, I have just found out that Chinese tourist visas are not issued to the people of my nationality and that I will need to head back home and apply from there. Having said this, I have also been informed that I can apply for a business visit visa from within the UK.

The question is, if I were to apply for a Chinese business visa, would this in any form be a violation of Tier 2 (General) visa rules as we are not meant to carry out any business activities. My friend in China is quite happy to provide me with a company's letter that I can use to get the business visit visa.
