Tier 2 Dependent Visa for Wife

Post by rp.pratt1 » Mon Dec 08, 2014 9:58 am

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could provide some guidance please.

I am currently on a Tier 2 General visa (company sponsored) and my wife is on a similar visa. I have recently tried to acquire a mortgage, for which I've been successful, but for many reasons the sale didn't go through.

My wife is thinking of switching to a dependent visa but still work and earn money herself. If she did move into a dependent visa, do I have to 'declare' this whilst applying for a new mortgage, to the lender? i.e. despite my wife earning herself and financially being independent, do I still have to declare that she's my dependent just because that's the visa category? I've been told by friends that the 'dependent' question that lenders ask, is purely from a financial perspective; i.e., if I have to financially provide for someone else too which is not the case here.

If my wife moving as my dependant would affect how much lenders can lend to me, then we do not want to go down this route yet.

Any guidance would be much appreciated! :)

Many thanks,
PR.

I agree that the dependency is purely from the financial perspective, and not in regards to Visa.

I believe the whole family income will be considered in its totality.
