Are new citizenship approvals report to embassies in Eire?

Post by chaoclive » Sat Dec 20, 2014 12:38 am

Anyone know if the Irish government is reporting citizenship approvals to embassies or other governments?

Curious specifically about the process for Chinese people. My partner will apply for Irish citizenship in the future (I'm an Irish citizen) and he would (albeit it illegally in the eyes of China) like to retain his Chinese citizenship. I've heard that the Chinese embassy now randomly attend citizenship ceremonies and that they have other ways of knowing.

Any experience? Heard anything about this?

Thanks!

My wife is Chinese and has no intentions of giving up her Chinese citizenship after she gets her Irish one.
None of her friends that have already got it done so either.
I don't see how Chinese embassy people could be attending the ceremonies unless they are getting citizenship themselves - they are invite only after all.
INIS have enough on their plate than to be policing other governments decision to allow dual nationality or not. From an Irish government perspective it is allowed for Irish citizens which your partner will be so that's as far as they are concerned about.
I think someone is winding you up to be honest.

Hope you're right! However, there are reports online that the Chinese government are tightening up on dual citizenship. Just don't want him to get in trouble, e.g. getting fined etc. hehe.

Sounds like our partners are in the same circumstances. Good luck to you both :)

Cheers :)
