Tier 2 General Extension

Hi all,

I have been granted tier 2 general visa since Nov'12. I applied from out of UK on a restricted COS after RLMT was conducted. My renewal or extension of tier 2 general is in October this year. I am with the same organisation since 2012.On that note please could you advise the following:

i: Do I need a BRP to apply for renewal/extension?

ii: Does my company (A rated sponsor) need to apply for unrestricted/restricted COS? If so when can they apply for the COS?

iii: When can I apply for the renewal?

iv: Documents I would require for the extension/renewal?

You only get a BRP if you apply from within UK. Since you've not applied from within UK yet, you'll not have one. Its fine.

ii: Does my company (A rated sponsor) need to apply for unrestricted/restricted COS? If so when can they apply for the COS?
Unrestricted Cos provided your role and job title remains the same. They can apply anytime they want to issue one (in case they do not have any in their quota). If they have one, it takes 20 min to assign a CoS.

iii: When can I apply for the renewal?
Anytime you want provided its within 3 months of CoS issue date.

iv: Documents I would require for the extension/renewal?
For extension, you only need to submit your original passport, photos and application forms. Maintenance proof is not reqd.

Thanks a lot. On that note in point ii: how does the quota system work for COS. Is there any time frame or particular period in a year by which a company needs to apply for a COS to avail the quota? If the company does not have a quota how long does it take to get a COS?

Getting an allocation of unrestricted CoS is straight-forward. Your company should get in within couple of weeks. I've heard cases of getting in couple of days. In short, doesn't take much time.
