Tricky Situation

Post by Alagomeji » Tue Aug 14, 2007 12:52 pm

Hello Everyone,

This is possibly more of a US forum issue, but I'm on an HSMP, so it also applies.
I'm Nigerian, and my partner is american, I'm on an HSMP, and she is on a work permit. We're married and we're having a baby in the next couple of months.

Now after having the baby, she intends to go to the US for some time in order to have support of her family. While she's there, she'll also get the child's US documentation completed.

My question here is - how do we get the baby back into the country? Is there anyway that I can apply for an HSMP visa for a baby that isn't in the country, and doesn't have a passport from my country of origin?

Thanks for your anticipated assistance.

There are different options that I can see.

Since the mother is travelling with the child, I believe its easy to get the child endorsed on the mother's passport.

Now the main question is - What passport is the mother using and how long is she going to be out of the UK. Also, is her WP going to cover the period of her absence in the UK? Will she be able to re-enter the UK with her child based on her WP?

If not, then you may have to get HSMP dependant for both your child and wife sorted out for them whilst they are in the US.

Dates on your passports and "expected" time out of the UK may help members of the forum give more information on way forward.
