Tier-2 General struggling to get new contracts

Post by Tier2Contractor » Mon Jan 26, 2015 1:49 pm

Hi, I am a valid tier-2 general visa holder. My current contract expires this month end. My employer is looking for the new contracts and they have given me the flexibility to find my own contracts as well.

I have posted my CV on job sites recently, getting calls as well but 90% of them rejecting due to Tier-2 visa. Is some one facing same problem? What is the exact cause? If UKVI has approved this visa, employers have sponsored.. everything is valid but still recruitment agencies are shutting the doors. Does any one know the reason?

I tried getting to the bottom of the issue..asked few recruiters (agency callers) but the answers I have got are like
- employers don't want to hire tier-2 guys
- you may abruptly leave the country when your employer tells you hence big companies dont want to work with tier-2 guys
so and so..

Is anyone facing same problem? Is there any one who has defeated this issue and successfully working on contracts being on Tier-2?

To answer your question in short, the current setup of you working as a contractor for an umbrella company is illegal as per current Tier 2 rules. Home office has become quite strict on this and is taking up checks and verification of sponsors. I guess that's why employers don't want to take risk.

That is because you are breaking the law by contracting under tier 2 general.
This Visa is for employees of a company not contractors so tough luck finding someone willing to break the law with you.

You should complain about your company to Home Office before you leave and go home.
