Council tax reduction on Tier 2 Visa

Post by Sana64 » Sat Feb 07, 2015 10:26 pm

Hi
I am on Tier 2 visa GENERALas working for NHS as a Doctor sice 2012. .I am getting 25% discount on Council Tax as i am living here with three children .Eldest one is 24yrs full time student not on my depent visa as he was above 18 when i came to UK.,s=Second is just turned 18 again full time student and third is 16 yrs full time student (Last two are on my visa as dependent) .All three of them are not working and they are full time student .I told my city council same and then they confirmed for my details making sure that none of them is earnning.except me and then they gave me 25% discount
.My husband is also on my dependent visa but he does not stay in UK.He keeps on visiting me twice or thrice in a yr but he does not saty.Iwill elligible for ILR in 2017 .My question is that,Is this 25% discount is under public fund as i m not suppose to get public funds if i m on Tier 2 Visa .If I ma not then do i need to return this discount and if i am elligible for discount then do i need written evidence from council that i told them everything and then they have given me this discount.
Please reply soon

You are a Doctor? Really? I can't understand your post at all, don't you need some sort of English test before treating people?

Getting a council tax discount (as opposed to council tax benefit or council tax reduction) is not a recourse to public funds. You presumably got the 25% discount because the house is considered to be in single occupancy, your children being disregarded persons for council tax purposes as they are students.

check the rules for your council here:
